Ana Sobel, PhD

Ana Sobel, PhD
Dr. Ana Sobel is a licensed psychologist who works with adults, couples, and older adolescents. She obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2002 and has been in private practice with Capital Pychological Associates since 2005. Dr. Sobel's clients have a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, relationship problems, and difficulties coping with life events and changes. A specialty area of hers is helping individuals recover from traumatic life events such as physical/sexual abuse or assault, accidents/injuries, and grief/loss. She also has extensive experience working with college students.

Dr. Sobel views therapy as an active process in which clients work toward accomplishing their goals both during and between sessions. Goals are reached through gaining a deeper understanding of one's own thoughts and feelings, practicing new skills (e.g., relaxation, interacting with others, taking care of oneself), and, at times, learning different ways to think about and react to situations. She believes that therapy can be an important tool in one's journey to overcome difficulties and more fully embrace the life one wants to lead.
